305 timing cover 1983 outs a camaro (ASAP) thanks
friend got a moter in his truck out of a 83 camaro, its a 305
we did the timing chain, put a doublechain on it, now the cover wont go back on, any pointers for getting the cover back on, i have done many fords but this chevy is giving me a run for then money, if anyone would have some advice let me know asap, we gotta get this thing outs my driveway, thanks a lot |

trim the bottom of the cover(the lip) to be able to shove the seal for the oil pan back in. or losen the oil pan bolts and wait for a leak

Yeah, the techincally correct way to remove and install the timing cover is to drop the oil pan, then pull cover, then reinstall cover, then oil pan. If you dont want to go to all of this trouble, you can usually just trim the bottom of the cover to get it back together like s1037s described. I've never done this myself, since everytime I pull a cover on a Chevy, the oil pan gasket seems to leak and need replaced anyway, but it is a pretty common practice.
