Chevy Guys Help
Ok so heres the situation...me and my buddy are lifting my 81 chevy to fit my 44's. it used to be a half ton but we switch that crap out for a dana 60 up front and a corprate 14 bolt in the rear. we now have both diffs under the truck and bolted in. my pinoin angle is straight and what i need to know is if i can do a c/v joint out of my 208c im sure that i can but i just wanna see if you guys have done one before and have any advice you can give me. im going to get a 205 down the road but for now im just gonna settle with the 208. if you can give me any advice from expieriance of what you think youd do anything would be greatly appreciated.

Depending on how much lift your truck has, and with 44"s, probably alot, you need to make sure that your axle are shimmed to the appropriate degrees necessary for the amount of lift you have, and although I can't give you numbers off the top of my head for what you are running, a driveline shop should be able to give you a good reference.
CV joint front drivelines are what GM used in a lot of 4x4s and it keeps the extreme angle of a driveshaft, especially on a lifted truck within workability. High Angle Driveline has some good products that you should check out.

I just got a 42 degree C/V from jesse at "High angle driveline" for my 208 in the mud truck with 11in. of lift works great. You will have to "notch" the x-member for the C/V to clear ( not much at all )....Good Luck

You might consider finding a 205 to put in before you spend the money on CV stuff for the 208. I dont know if the cv stuff would match right up to both, but if not, you could prolly find a 205 cheap enough to be comparable to the cv parts for a 208. Just my $.02

I agree with Biz, get a 205 now, why spend all that time and money just to change it again. Your going to have to have 2 driveshafts made and they might be different when you put the 205 in so you might have to have new ones made or alter the old ones. Just do it the way you want the first time. You'll be glad you did in the end.

Trust me I'm a 205 NUT if I could run the 42 degree C/V I would have one but the C/V "Bell" won't clear the 400 or 350 tranny pan with a 205 mounted on it ( I tried it on both )! You can try but in my best ghost voice....I Told you soooooo

you can run a high angle shaft on the rear on a 205 when its on a 400...just not the front right? I think hes talkin rear shafts right now
not a big deal...fronts geting cut and turned before we run a front anyways...just cut it so we dont need a high angle cv... Last edited by Stuckle; 01-05-2006 at 04:06 PM. |

208 with a rear C/V is no problem it's gonna run you about $450.00 depending on the specs/upgrades you want. I have a 1350 C/V High Angle Driveline on the back of the mud truck.

the CV can be done, I would reccomend that you wait though. I go a SM465 and NP205 for $140. alot cheaper than the CV 208, I also think the CV for a 205 would be less.
