Dimmer switch

Just recently had the tilt column apart to tighten the mounting screws on my 90 sub. The typical gm tilt wheel steering shake was fixed. The problem is now the headlight dimmer switch rod seems to be a bit too short. I got everything put back right. (I think) The rod seems to be engaged at the top (dimmer cruise control lever) but seems to be not moving far enough to engage the switch. Is the switch movable so that it can be placed closer to the end of the rod? If so how do you access it? It looks like there is little room to get to the bolts. Is there some other cause for the problem? The switch works.
Thanks Brad

On the side of the column the rod fits into a center hole on the switch itself. I think you can put it back in without taking it apart again. Are you sure you got all the little plastic pieces back in correctly when you had the column apart?

I am pretty sure I got it back together correctly. I think you may have the answer. I didn't realize that the rod fit into a hole on the switch. I will check that out today.
Thanks Brad
