1995+ dodge 60 front in 78 1/2 truck

I was looking around at axles for a 2wd to 4wd conversion on my 78 c10 and was wondering if anyone had tried adapting one of the dana 60 from a newer dodge. I am wanting to use a 4 link with panhard which the axle has the hardware for. I know the axle is for a drivers side drop but that isn't a big concern as so are most of the Tcases I am considering. I also know that it isn't the strongest 60 but it should work for my plans and upgrades are available.

would it be easier to start with a chevy 60 or the rare late 70s high pinon 60 and then 4 or 3 link it or would this work? feel free to flame away just let me know why you think my idea deserves the flames as well
