HELP(new to GM)-3500 6.5 TD 4x 5spd Broke?

94 GMC 3500 4X 6.5 TD 5spd manual (NV4500?)---Here is the situation:

Downhill on the Grapevine pass, Interstate 5 @ 70MPH in 5th, it all of a sudden felt like it wasn't in gear and nothing was there when trying to select any gear. It was as if the T/C was in nuetral? Moved the T/C lever to no avail. Then came to a stop.

Now it would move when shifted into a gear forward and back but made a lot of noise from the front of the truck. When trying to shift the case into Nuetral it just stayed in 2High. Got a deffered tow home for the truck and a ride, will be able to take a look when it arrives morning time. Any things I should first look for? Does this sound like a trans or TCase issue? Any pointers are much appreciated.--Long Beach, Ca.
