u joints arent in alignment

i noticed under my 77 that the u joints in my rear driveline arent in alignment

they are off by about 60 degrees or so, rotated

its a factory 203 and th350 rig, fixed yoke still

is it ok like this or should the joints be aligned ?

thanks for anything

You mean NOT like this ]-------[ ?

Literally, just pull the d-shaft apart, turn the slip end to match the t-case end and push back together. They should be aligned to minimize vibrations...

yeah like that

the caps at one end of the shaft arent phased the same as the caps at the other end of the shaft

so i take it they need or must be in alignment ? or ?

or doesnt matter ?

i dont notice any balance problem or anything driving it ever

thanks

Yes, the u-joint caps should be in a straight line with each other.

Obviously it will work if out of alignment because you are driving it...but it will lead to early bearing wear because of the vibrations. It will take a long time to kill a pinion bearing or t-case bearing but the little needle bearings in you u-joints will go out much faster.
