M1028 build
well what can i say...i waited too long and my post expired...anyway;
recap: when i got the truck it had all stock components(6.2,th400,np208...)but shit for axles(3/4ton 10b front,1/2ton d44 rear) it was worth the 700bucks though. downfalls; -axles -turned over but didnt start -no keys -rear driveline bent to hell and back -batts. wouldnt hold a charge for more that a week -lots of surface rust -one blackout light missing -and a truck bed full of crap goodies; -three new tires -all new injecters -excellent inteirior -and a full tank of gass ![]() notice the 31''s in rear...those things were bald as hell, my buddy got 3 wires from one of them stuck in his hand! ![]() my buddy for some reason thot it was a good idea to lift the front end off the ground a couple INCHES ''so the batts. wouldnt drain as easily''!

Damn, I would have to sit down and think about it if I would even take that thing for free.

you guys are fucking impatient...
the first thing to do was get it running, all it took was 10 minutes and a new relay board. after that a new fuel filter, batteries, oil, air cleaner, and door locks. and i needed a new rear axle...so i made a few calls and got a hook up with my buddy in watsonville had a 14bff sittin around and said i could have it. so i got the new one bolted in... ![]() man those fuckin u-bolts are a bitch!

you got a good starter platform, I just put a 6" superlift kit on mine and am loving it. have you been on www.steelsoldiers.com yet? we have a great group of guys that can help you diagnose any issues with the truck. (and you wont get flack for asking simple questions, like other forums :hint :hint)

"Did the 14bolt you picked up have a detroit in it? I'm sorry but I don't get why these things are getting so spendy...the only thing that makes them special is the D60 in the front and detroit in the rear. Everything else is just like the stock chevy stuff that you can pick up for free from a farmers field....

I know where a couple are/were. One was pretty well canibalized but still had the motor and axles and the other was a driver with 60K. They guy wanted $3000 for the pair. I can find the # if need . I know where there's a 84' K30 454/465/205. Motor needs rebuilt and body is rough. No rust.

Like I just said, take the axles away and there goes the posi front (most people don't want a Trac-lok diff anyway for off-roading), and it's not like a CUCV is the only model Chevy truck that ever came with a 205 t-case. |
