14 bolt-disk brake-parking brake?

Has anyone ever swapped out the stock drums for disks with a parking brake? Any tips on this would be greatly appreciated.

I read that cadillac calipers may work, but no sure about the rotors and brackets.

Use the same brackets as any other 14 bolt disk brake conversion and get Eldorado Calipers for the rear of a 76-78 and they will fit. For rotors just get 73-87 3/4 ton front rotors. I have that setup but have never hooked up the cables. I have jacked up the rear end, let it turn about 20, and used vice grips to move the arms and it seems to stop the wheels ok. A lot of people don't like them.

They don't like the calipers because the do not stay adjusted. The E-brake must be used often to keep them in adj. They stay in adj on mine with freq. use of the E-brake.

Some states require parking brakes to pass inspections - something that is a must for DD's.

But I don't run them.

As mentioned, the calipers require use of the parking brake to stay in adjustment. They do not self adjust like other disk brake calipers. When you get them be sure to turn the arm and let them adjust before you ever use the hydraulic brakes. You should use the parking brake or turn the arm at least once a week after that. You could probably use your stock ebrake cables, but the trick is making a mount/fixed point near the end of the cable to replace where the drum brake backing plate normally holds it.

Chris over at Rock Tech carries a hydraulic locking valve that"ll lock up the brakes. (562) 690-8321 This will eliminate the E-Brake cable from getting cought on the trails.

Is this any different than a line lock? You can get those anyware but if you are trying to pass an inspection most I have seen require a mechanical e-brake system....

i would recommend a parking brake. i never used to run them and one time i was doin a hill climb and broke my spring perches and spung the axle around ripping out all brake lines and leaving me rollin backwards. i threw it in gear, but its just a suggestion.

Hundreds of people have done in. Many bitch about it. Look at http://www.tsmmfg.com/Rear_Disc_Brake_Kits.htm
