drive train problems(grinding noise)
i am runing a sbc with a sm465 mated to a 205 and a 14 bolt rear end. the problem is when ever my foot isnt on the gas it makes a grinding noise. it doesnt do it when im on the gas.you can really notice the noise in 3 and 4th gear. transmission was rebuilt and i put a different 205 in it and still does the same thing. the rear end is new and has a detroit locker. i dont know what else it could be. any help or suggestions. thanks jon

what are you driveshaft angles like
if they are out and your not running a cv you will hear a grinding noise until you fix it... pull out the angle reader and check them i know cause mine did it before too |

One thing that gets looked over is the splined adapter that joins the SM465 output shaft NP205 input shaft. They wear over time and start making noise normally heard under no load condtions.
Drove me nuts trying to figure out what the noise was. |

thos trannys have problems with the synchronizers going out in 3rd and 4th. im sure that is what it is. they can be replased this better ones. the factory ones are made of brass lots of times and they get ate up. especially if you dont use the clutch when shifting
