different backlash measurements
On my 14 bolt. I swaped in a open carrier with a detroit which had a gov lock in it. I counted how many holes i backed off but it didnt seem to matter since my new open carrier needed more holes to be backed off.
I didnt have a vice and the only way i could bolt my ring gear on was jaming one nut and going into a ciricle. Im thinking that would explain my different backlash measurements in different spots on the ring gear correct? I heard it doesnt even matter what backlash i achieve, its all about the drive pattern and the coast pattern doesnt really matter with resetting up used gears. Im gonna pick up some gear marking compound from somewhere and see what it looks like, i might take the ring gear off and retorque it in the star pattern, i just hope i didnt f up my ring gear?

you could very easily have bent your ring gear. inconsistent BL readings is NOT good. i just finished regearing my 14FF today. it pays to do it right the first time. go read http://www.pirate4x4.com/articles/te...14b_Gear_Setup
that is priceless info for someone learning how to do it. read the ENTIRE thing. it has info for reusing old gears. |
