SM 465 noise

got a chevy SM465 2WD style problem, shifts fine but when i take it out of gear like 3rd into (N) it sounds like a gear is floating. only when its in (N) when the truck is moving? i drained the oil found no metal, removed PTO cover and top cover not seeing any damage, any info???
its got a new clutch also.

well i disconnected the short driveshaft to my transfer case and no noise. so i guess its in the transfer case. got new bearings in it and no metal in the oil.
