Cutting for 42's
Hey guys. Im just about to order some 42" Iroks for the blazer.. and im sorta gettin gunshy. The truck has 6"softrides and a 2 inch body lift. It currently sits on 38.5 boggers and some moderate hackage of the front fenders... no rubs at all. BUT what im afraid of with the 42s, no matter what i do with my good friend "mr. sawzall" im going to be into the firewall pretty heavy. Do you think a couple hits with a big A$$ hammer will do the trick on the firewall enough to limit the rubs or will i HAVE to set the axle forward an inch or two?? Any experience or pictures would be great.
Heres a few pictures to show what im worried about.. this is before my first trim job... but you get the point ![]() after the trimming ![]() and the rear might be a adventure also...

Unless you have a bigger front axle (60?) waiting for install, I think it would be wise to re-direct the tire fund. But if you insist, there is always a bigger hammer and more sawzall blades.

I ran the same set up with 39.5 TSL's. I made lots of contact with the firewall at full stuff and had LOTS more fender trimmed than you. Dont hit the fenders but they hit the cab and take lugs off. You are gonna need more lift or move the front axle forward a bit. I went to a D60 and a 8in spring and they cleared alot better. But no way i could run it with 42's. Your cab is gonna eat up your expensive tires.

Like 73stpside said, move your front axle forward.
Incorporate a zero rate into your front leaf pack and move your axle ahead an 1 or 1.5" and trim your front fender and rad support right up to the headlights. That's what I did on my last project. I ran 39.5" Pitbulls with a 4" susp and 3" body, loads of sawzall and BFH = no rubbing. |

switchin to boggers because it is a bit of a drive to any wheelin spots or trails and i dont have a tow rig for it... so it gets driven. Boggers are horrible on the roads.

Im curious to see the front of the fender.. Ill most likely try zero rates to see if thats enough to clear the firewall...

I would bag the 42's and buy a 60 first.
You'll have alot more fun on 38's and 1 ton then 42's and a dana 44.
