On the front you'll have to simply swap to SRW hubs (single rear wheel).
You need to read this FIRST!... http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billav...ble/index.html |

you simply run srw hubs on the front 60, and srw hubs on the rear 14b. you might have to run srw brakes too on the 14b

oy... sounds like a newbie post...
break out the sawzall, cut the frame, and shorten it. oh.... stick it back together with bailing wire and bubble gum.

Oh, hell!
i figure it out! he wants to know how to move the spring hangars forward to preclude cutting the frame off. this would give lift. just cut the rear part of the frame off, right... sure go ahead and do it.

I'm not too familliar with crew cab frames but if they are like most of the other chevy frames then I think this can be done without too many problems. You would probably have to do a shackle flip to keep your springs at a reasonable angle, but expect quite a bit of lift from doing this also. It would actually be a pretty cool project. Just take good pictures along the way

its not a bad idea, for a capable welder and wrech head. it is a bad idea if you have no idea of how to even cut it out or are asking questions like this.
as for the rear axle you will be better off just getting a srw 1t rear axle becuase of all the brakes and width situations. a srw 14bff is 67.5" @ wms your dually axel is going to be either 73 or 63" @wms, while you can make the srw hubs mount dirrectly the brake mounts WILL NOT line up and you have to weld and remount all the brake stuff. if you get a 14b out of any 1t 2wd or 4wd it will be a dirrect bolt in and everything will be ready to use.

Spring pads are closer together on a 1-ton, it uses hangers that hug the frame closer to give clearance for the c&c rear that is narrow.

The rear wheel openings are bigger, so you will need to get a standard bed too, not just take off the flares.

How short do you want to make the bed? There are threads in here where guys have put crew cabs on standard cab 8' bed frames and ended up with about a 5' bed. That wheelbase would be 131". If you wanted a 6' bed, I am not sure your spring hangers in the rear are gonna end up on a straight part of the frame. It would seem that your rear spring hangers would end up in the kickup area of the frame and that would have to be addressed and modified to achieve your goal, assuming you wanted straight frame rails out behind the cab. Type in crewcabs under search and see what you can find. should be plenty of info to give you an idea of where you are headed.

I just built a 91 dually for a guy that had the dana 70 in the back.
I have a 97 dually with a 14bolt in it. But I would bet it's a 70 for that year. But if you can't identify the rear that's in the truck no need to proceed. should be a walk in the park. |

While that's true of a cab-and-chassis dually axle, the dually pickup axle is much wider. Therefore, even if it is a 14 bolt (which I highly doubt; likely a D70 as others have said) the axle shafts would be different length, etc. Even with a cab-and-chassis rear, the brake backing plate flanges would need to be moved to accomodate SRW brakes. Anyway, best bet here is to swap the D60 hubs to SRW up front and find a SRW one ton 14 bolt (must be one ton for 40.5" perch width) and be done with it. Don't bother trying to modify the rear you have now.
Good luck to you, Joe S. |

Dude, this ain't the place to be throwing around newbie questions on shit we've been doing ourselves, and talking about, for years!! Just give me your CC dually, get yourself a SRW truck, and move on. Also if your desire is to have a CC, shortbed, SRW, 4x4.....well, forgive me for sounding like a broken record here, but fuckin' search!!! Search first, ask questions later.
