4L80E Differences
What are the differences in the 4l80e transmissions through out the years? I am asking because i have a 91 4l80e and want to put it into a 96 chevy

1993 New case connector and wiring harness (service package can update earlier models);
1994 New force motor, new electronics (no interchange or updates possible); 1997 Center lube transmission case (major design change, no interchange or updates possible); 1999 Planetary gear changes (retrofit possible if other parts are changed [on center lube case only]); 1999 New 2nd gear band (retrofit possible if other parts are changed); and 2003 New design overrun clutch (retrofit possible if other parts are changed). i have a 93 in mine and i was told by my local tran's tech's that the 91 92's where the most problem related and to avoid them ... just a heads up if u care
 ...if not ....

I think all 91's used the transfer case for the rear speed sensor...( instaed of the trans having 2, it has the input sensor but not the output sensor)... I just went through this...on some 4x4 model 4l80e's they left the output speed sensor ring (toner ring) off of the output carrier assembly. Make SURE you look in the speed sensor hole in the trans...and make SURE you see the toner ring. Don't ask me why I know this...

speed sensors
i am using a 2wd tranny with a spacer to a np205. it has the two vss on the drivers side

Actually the front one isn't VSS, it's a turbine input speed sensor. Just to clarify.
