8.1 performance

Does anyone know, preferably from experience, what can be done to the 8.1 to get a little more performance out of it?

I know it is a pretty broad question. I know there is the whipple SC. I am actually looking at one right now thinking about that. I do not want to bore the motor out. There are no aftermarket heads. No aftermarket intake. Marine injectors are larger than stock automotive ones.

I was thinking maybe a cam swap, larger throttle body, larger injectors. I've heard you can swap in the zz502 cam? I dunno someone come up with some ideas.

very nice for $7000. Seems there cams are designed around there heads. Wonder how they will work on a stock head. I'd like to stay away from boring out the motor or buying new heads though. Something under a grand would be cool. If I could find a nice set of headers that would fit inside the fraim rails or my truck that would be cool too. I havent seen any yet though other than having custom headers made. I think I will email them about their intake a TB though.

The whipple supercharger looks like it might be more bang for the buck on a stock 8.1.

GM chokes the hell out of these motors, stock in a mastercraft boat they make 425hp vs the 340hp and 455ft/lbs in the truck. Best bang would be a good re flash of the computer.

I did a saved search on Ebay for a Whipple SC for my 93 454. Took 6 months but I got the whole set up for under 2 grand. I have had it on for several years now and it has been trouble free. Its a no BS power mod.

STS turbo would be another option if you wanted a turbo instead of a supercharger.

I have seen a video on youtube of an 8.1 running this setup.
