1 ton trans

I know, ive searched. I cant find what im looking for. I need to know if the 700r4 was available behind the 6.5 in 1998. I was told that's what is in the truck, but i hope its the early 4L80, because its free. (flame suit on)

Thanks in advance.

No 700r4 transmissions were used in 1998. They were dropped for the 4l60e in the early '90s. If it actually has a 700r4 in it then it has been swapped.

As for identifying the difference between a 4l60e and a 4l80e, search for pics of both and crawl under the truck and look. They have some pretty distinctive features that should help you identify which one it is.

Should be a 4l80e behind the 6.5. The 80 has a longer pan than the 60. The 60 pan will look basically like the 700. Remember that a diesel trans will have to have changes made to go behind a gas burner.
