AAM/Dodge interchange with GM/Corporate 14B

Will the AAM Torsen locker, out of an AAM/Dodge 10.5" (like the '04- Power Wagon) function in the GM/Corporate 14 bolt? I know the pinion is set up different in the Dodge 10.5 (no pilot bearing), but does that affect the function (location) of the carrier?

Paging Gearman...

I would think that, no it would not work. The venerable GM 10.5" 14 bolt (with 6 bolt pinion support) is a completely different axle than the AAM 10.5" used in Dodges.

BTW the first year for the "new" Power Wagon was 2005

I'm curious as well. Randy's Ring and Pinion website shows that the carrier assembly has ALL the same specs; axle diameter, splines, ring gear bolts, thread etc...

I would think that the pinion offset would be something to look at, as well as ring gear offset...

I wonder, since AAM made the original 14bolt, how much they DIDN'T change.

well, lets see......

if you share parts from one to the next, does the value of your product go up or down? GM learned with the small block that commonality of parts is vital for mass production.... but also figured out that by changing the parts slowly over a few years, that the parts (while interchangeable) would not gain in value a great deal...

Ford, on the other hand, learned that if you make 4 engine families, and made many changes within each family, you can make MORE money

What you say is true.... I'm just literally curious what is the same-- bearings?

Ford can fawk right off with that shit. I once had a 460 in an M725, which promptly blew up. Imagine my Chevy-based surprise when I had to find that same year engine due to retarded, but important changes.

Interchange rules, and GM's losing money in spades anyway.

Thanks for the link. I know i heard/read somewhere that the GM 9.25" ARB will fit the AAM Ram solid 9.5" front with a ring gear spacer. I'm wandering if something similar could be done for the rear 10.5's...
