I'm not sure where your question is. I think first you should figure out if it was originally a cali truck or not. I think it's less strict if it wasn't equipped with ca emmissions(I may be talking out of my ass on this one, but I think that's how it works).
To smog in CA, you need: smog pump, exhaust manifold with fittings for smog tubes(Think it's called A.I.R. fittings), EGR, catalatic converter, and probably a bunch of other stuff I don't know about. I'm from TX so figuring out CA smog is killing me too. Check out www.coloradok5.com in the NORCAL forum. I think there is already a few threads on somg over there. |

Schedual an appointment with a referee. He will tell you exactly what you need to do. As MJF said you need all that and then some, purge canister, PCV, I think(I have an 85, not sure what 76 came with). I do know the rules are different for a non cali truck coming to cali. As for the engine if it has a cam with different timing than the factory cam it will fail. The carb has to have the original style choke. The car cannot have dual exhaust(true dual) unless it was offered from the factroy that year. Your best bet is to see a ref though.

My Dad has a 76K-10 w/headers, and dual exhaust and it passes every year. The headers have been tapped and have the smog fittings screwed into them. You will need a smog pump for sure. I know you don't wanna hear this, but register the damn 73 tub already!!

Damn, too bad you're not here. We get smog checks, but if the vehicle is over 25 years old, you can get an "antique" plate & never have it inspected or emmissions tested ever again
