87 chevy shortbox 44" tires

hey fellas im about to get started on a new project. its an 87 chevy shortbed. in my opinion its the best lookin truck to date. i plan to run 44" tires but im not sure what kind...i want them to be very aggressive offroad but i also need them to have good street mannors. (i have an 89 gmc jimmy on 38.5" ground hawgs with 8" lift, and the ride is ruff)i plan on putting a gm 14 bolt ff in the rear, but im not sure what to put in the front. if anyone out there has any ideas or opinions on what i should do i would appriciate the feedback!

P.s

I want this thing to be a beast so any other ideas u have for me would be greatly appreciated! thanks guys.

You will need to put a Dana 60 up front unless it is a pavement pounder you could get by with a Dana 44. As far as getting 44's with GOOD street manners GOOD LUCK. Is this a mud truck, rock crawler, or a street queen?

Hmmmm lets see.... i guess since its not going offroad, you wont need a front driveshaft...

park it on the freeway with the keys in the ignition. leave the title signed, and in the glove box. walk away, go buy a VW Jetta, and join the hip crowd of gayboys.

Mine rides like a caddy.

Best advice I could give if you want this thing to be a beast is to drop it off with me, walk away and never, ever, ever look back

Since we are going for street manners, a 3.08 gear will allow you to go 125+ mph without taxing the engine too much.

You say you want it to be a beast offroad but with good street manners.. can't have both.

You need to pick which side of the street (or mountain) your on. The guy with the 4x4 that goes 4x4ing... in actual mud and goes up hills and rocks. and doesn't care about ride just how far he can make it through that hole.

or you can go with all that lift and big bad ass street tires and cruise the mall parking lot, whatever.

huh? someone might take that as advice. . . . . but i couldnt imagine trying to turn a 44 with 3.08s downhill only i guess.

put a 60 in it some good crossover steering good shocks and i know its all relative but a fullsize chevy rides pretty decent on 44s. ive driven stock vehicles that felt way worse

If my name was Dick Cepek, I think I'd change it to something like Pat Moini

Dude, if you want your truck to ride good on 44"s get a good quality suspension lift and don't be afraid to run less lift and trim the fenders

You want good quality shocks (no not chrome LOL) set your steering up right (yeah you probably need crossover)

Mount the tires on a 10 or 12 " wide wheel and run about 15 pounds of air in them on the street and find somebody that will do a quality balance job on the tires using weight patches inside the tire instead of just using weights on the rims.

Make sure all your steering components are in good shape and get a good alignment.

These steps will go a long way towards a good ride on the street.

After that, just live with it.
