What's a 454 weigh?

I am considering putting a 454 TH400 combo in place of 4.0 straight six in a CJ, whats the weight of this bad boy?

This is true but the 258/236 6 cyl. are huge blocks of steel too. They are torque monsters ....

Like diesel says, it's 650 lbs. for the engine alone. Not sure about the TH400. I could see the 258 weighing that much too. Straight sixes are usually heavier than you might think.

Postal and Rat540Cj what kind of radiators do you run in your rigs?I am putting a 454/465/205 combo in a CJ5 and am concerned with cooling,since it will see mostly slow trail duty.Thanks for any info.Blazin <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Oh yeah MT if your concerned about weight you could throw a pair of aluminun heads and intake on the bad boy and save alot of weight atleast 50 to 100 lbs.This gets it down to around SB chevy weight.Blazin <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Yep...650 lbs! Slightly less if you use an alum intake and heads.

It has a 3 core radiator, stock dimensions except thickness. There are no inner fenders, so heat is not trapped under the hood. It has a decent shroud that is sealed to the radiator. The fan is engine driven, no clutch. Water only, no antifreeze. Mine is used for mostly slow speed tough trail duty and that's where I have heat problems in the summer. It will run 230-240, and the heat radiating off the floor is nice too. <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0"> If I am moving it runs cooler. The worst thing is when we have a group of rigs on a tough trail and we stop and shut them off at each obstacle, it gets a little hotter each time, and it can't get rid of the heat once it's there. If I pick a lower gear than I need and keep the R's up a bit it helps. If it is below 80, it will run about 210.

I'm looking forward to fall <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> . The power is great, but not really necessary. It sucks because I built the engine to chug along at 300 RPM, and it does it well, but it doesn't get enough air/coolant flow at that speed. Over the winter, I will swap to an injected 350.
