If you had a choice what axle would you run in the rear of a V-8 Chevy powered Toyota pick-up? I have a chance to buy a 6lug 12 Bolt Chevy rear or a 5lug Dana 60? $100 for the 12 bolt 3.73 gears and a $200 for Dana 60 4.10 gears

I would go for the Dana 60. Stronger without any real ground clearance sacrifice. Better gear ratio.

I havent had any probs with mine, and my truck has a V8 in it too. But if I was offered a 60 for 200 bucks I'd do that... and you can make your 12 bolt a ff if you decide to go that route..... |

I had a chance to get a D60 and D44 out of a Dodge and needed some info on them so I posted it inthe Dodge forum.
From what I gathered fromn there as well as from other sources the D60 is about the same strenghth wise as 12 bolt.

You did't say what year 60 it is.The older ford 60's were a 16 spline shaft(weak). The 12 bolt have 30 splines. The older 60's are hard to find parts for also. The 12 is easy to find parts anywhere. The only advantage would be if it is FF or not.I have been running a 12 bolt in a '73 Blazer with v8and 4speed and locker for about 4 years.I have had no problems with this.Just my 2cents.Blazin

The Dana 60 has 1.5 inch 35 spline axle shafts. So it isn't the stock 16 or 19 spline weak units I have heard about.

my vote is for the 60 especially if it is a 35 spline unit for 200 bones. I m not against the 12 bolt by any means, if you go the 60 route now you won't be replacing it anytime soon.

200 for a D60? Go for it! Put it in and you won't have to worry about it too much. To make a 12bolt a FF, I think the kit is running at least 600 or 700 and you still have a 12bolt.

i dont get it when people say 12b parts are easier to find then dana60 parts. they dont even make 12bolts anymore and they only came in a few vehicles. the 60 is still in production and has been in trucks from GM, Ford, Dodge, International, probably Jeep fullsizes, as well as dodge muscle cars. if you mean 'i cant find used 16 spline axles' then ok but you can step up to modern 35 splines for cheap(i think i paid $125each to go from 32 to 35 spline). carrier options cant be beat for a dana60. 9.75" ring gear in the 60 vs 8.875 in the 12bolt
