I have an sm465 that is a direct bolt up to a chevy 350 and want to know if it will be a direct bolt to a 383 stroker. anyone know?

yep. 383 is basically a 350 with a 400 crank. Besides the flywheel/flexplate and balancer, everything will bolt right up to it.

a 383 is a 350 with a 400 crank. Any Small block chevy from 262-400 c.i. has the same bellhousing bolt pattern.

all chevy smallblocks AND big blocks have the same bellhousing bolt pattern! but, there are differences in the flywheels!
a 383 will take a 400 flywheel which only fits the 400 and is externally balanced. let me know if you need one, i've got a brand new one sitting in my stash!

as long as the block pre-'86 it will. I beleive the post '86 will not bolt right up w/o an adapter.

you must be refering to the one piece seal and the flywheel interchange. the bellhousings. are the same you would just have to use the flywheel that matches the style of crankshaft you are using.
