Post Chevy axle help please.

Does anyone know if GM ever had a front solid axle with the carrier on the driver side. If so, could someone please tell me what truck they came in, and where these babies are hidding at. I'm doing a solid axle in the fron on my 99' S-10 ZR2 Blazer, and I think it's about time I have the front and rear the same width. I'm running a 14 bolt in the back, so that sticks out pretty damn far with 35x12.50s.

You are gonna have to get a Dana 44/60 from a ford 73-93? F-250 or F350. Good luck

My bud just solid axled a S Jimmy. He used a Dana 30 out of a Jeep. He even hooked up a valve so the could run the disconnect. The lug pattern doesn't match the rear but there are adaptors available to change that and in fact you will need the adaptor thickness to get it to track the same. The D30's out of the Jeeps hold up fairly well. They are also easy to find and pretty cheap to buy.
If your set on full width then get the axles out of a pre 80 solid axle ford like a 78-79 full size bronco. They ran a reverse cut D44 front with the pig on the side you need it to be on and nothing wrong with the 9 inch rear. You going to have to get real custom though because they were not set up to run leaf springs. You could probably adapt the ford Coils on it. Other option would be find the D44 out of a scout. It's not full width but that's a popular axle to put into Jeeps when upgrading.

Reaper does your buddy have any pictured of how he reused that disconnect. im gonna be swapping in a 30 in my Blazer soon. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

haha My buds what he did it is sort of funny. He works at a Hospital running the maintance department. He used some air valves off respritory equipment. I think the GM used a single vac line and when the vac was removed a spring poped it out of lock. The D30 uses 2 vac line. one to engage one to disengage. The valve is 2 way. So when he flips it one way it sends vac to the engage side and flipping it the other way sends to the disengage. You could do it with 2 valves also. Just Y the suply to both. You would have to turn one off and one on but it would work. Lets you get 2 low that way.
The S series had the vac switch in the shifter I believe he said. You could probably pick up a simular valve at pet stores in the area they sell the stuff for airating tanks. Never thought I would send somebody to a Pet store for parts for their truck LOL.

Stay away from the 30 axle the joints pop like popcorn!!!! Get a 44 and don't worry about it no more.
