np205 6x6 questions

i just got a 1983 3500 4x4 DRW with a 6.2/turbo 400/np205

i want to make it 6x6

can i run a divorced NP205 backwards? the rear output would be the input and the front output and front input would face the rear and drive the rear axles. i know that i could only use 1 to 1 (high range).

also how much can i clock it without leaking problems?

thanks
frankie

p.s. i included this sweet artist rendering of what im building.

Search backwards 205, there's a few chevy's I can think of that did it.
Also search 6x6, as this has been covered many times lately, and pics and how-tos are all over the place.

I've read them all, but I'm way to lazy to search it for you.

yeah good luck. After reading that thread the guy came up with the conclusion that its not a production axle, its custom made by someone.

there is a guy back home i know... He took an 80's suburban and did what u want to do. Specs stock 350 he built a custom blow through turbo setup on/ SM465/ "2" np208's/ "2" SF14

he ran both NP208s output to output and a single U joint inbetween the two. then ran a two piece drive shaft to get over the first dif.

probably the most fucked ass shit Ive seen and drive he drives it on the street but he has never broke it.

looks something like this -------you know road grader style rear suspension

You can make a NP205 have dual rear outputs using NP200 parts:

I met a guy years ago that made a 6x6 ford using a 205 what he did was had a custom lower shaft made. On a 205 the rear covers have the same bolt pattern . So he had the lower shaft made to duplicate both the lower and upper shaft so he could run the standard upper housing on the lower witch gave him 3 yokes didn't say what it cost just said was not cheap.

Just plain craziness...6x4 style....

so has anyone mounted a divorced NP205 in the rear, high and to the center(on a pretty stout crossmember)? You could take a twin of the solid axle already living in the rear of your vehicle, turn it around and install some reverse cut, or front, gears in it. Next push the rear axle back, if possible. Run the front(or would that be the middle?) axle off the front out of the 205 and the rear most, or last, axle off of the rear out of the 205.

With this set-up you could have some pretty good choices as far as which drive axle(s) and what ratios.

any info/ideas reguarding this?

Thanks in advance.

Maybe you want to do something similiar to this:
http://www.olive-drab.com/idphoto/id_photos_wc62.php
If you can get a hold of the this manual, it has drivetrain schematics in it of the suspension and tc/driveshaft setup;
TM 9-1808B Powertrain, Chassis & Body
Maybe the manual is available online here: http://www.emilitarymanuals.com/3qtrtontruck.htm and here http://www.military-manuals.com/mili...ity_truck.html

You must be from Wichita Falls. I just saw that OD suburban the other day and made my wife take a picture of it as we drove by. Didn't get to stop and check it out though. I will have to make here send that pic to me and I will post it up.
