Newbie sheetmetal questions for a cab swap on K30
I am exploring a top-free option for the spring/fall and want doors without the window tracks. I am above the chop-top crap I saw on 80s low rider stuff in high school.
If I obtained a convertible Blazer cab and doors in order to fit to my 88 K30, what is different besides the flooring to accommodate the fuel tanks and the rear of the truck cab, etc.? Can I reuse the power window parts in the Blazer doors? Thanks, Russell

The cowl area is different also. You would have to mod the cowl or run the older fenders, hood, core support, and grill ect ect.

The cowl sheetmetal is spotwelded in place, or removable like my old Dodges? I'm of split decision over swapping the entire front clip out; more work, so what, but additional cost.
My 88 in a 6.2L diesel that I'd like to convert sometime to a 6.5 TD with intercooler. I think the later front clip had some room somewhere for the intercooler.

You dont understand, on the older trucks. The cowl was part of the hood. The sheet metal around the bottom corners of the glass is different. On the newer trucks/blazers the cowl was its own peice. Its not as simple as you're thinkin it is.

what the hell are you asking about? putting a FULL convertable blazer tub on a k30 frame?
if thats what you want think about installing a blazer body (which is shorter then a short bed) on a long bed frame. lots of work and will look stupid. if you want just the windshield frame and doors, the doors will bolt up, the windshield frame will have to be grafted. The power windows will probably fit with a little work.

Remove the windshields and cut the top of the windshield frame off and weld the convertibles windshield frame top onto yours after you cut your cabs roof off. Then figure a way to make the convertible top into a half cab and fit on your cabs bottom. Easy.

If your referring to the 73 to 75 fullconvertible blazers you as far as the doors go they re the same as the non full convertible and you can cut a normal pair and cap them to work. and you have to use the same generation front clip and cab . . .you can not mix 70s and 80s cabs and clips like that. And no you cant make it work it will still look like shit.
why would you title something newbie and put it in the the tech? |

I am not a newbie, just the question. I put the inquiry in the Chevy forum because the question is for a Chevy. As I indicated, just exploring the idea. I once drove a Kaiser M724, like the M715 bit with a service body. I always liked the idea and wondered about rag top feasibility on the Chevy chassis.
No, I don't want a Blazer. They don't have a service bed! I want something like this, but without the digital manipulation: ![]() Thanks for the help.

http://coloradok5.com/full-convertible-conversion.shtml or take the blazer cab and cut it at about the same spot as the cab in the truck and weld it all together. (If they even fit right which i don't think they will cause of the differnt shapes of the cabs) Idk why you'd want to do that though. EDIT: Actually you'd probably have to cut up near the floorboards more than in my pic Like this

Why the hell would you waste the time?? To each his own I guess. Make sure you mount a head rest on the service body cuz I have a feeling your gonna need it. Makes one hell of a head knocker. Easiest way would be cut the top of the windshield frame off of both trucks along with the cab to the desired height on the back side and weld the top portion of the blazer back in place, front would be done then. Now the back you need to either buy a "fag" top for it or manufacture one from something. I have in years past seen kits for sale for those tops but never paid attention to them cuz they look gay. Remove the top put in a cage and live with the rain would be the way to do it, but still why its a work truck, I think anyway.

Again, thanks for the suggestions. Others have recommended the Raticul top, just what I didn't want...the 80's look and hack.
I think the idea is shelved.
