Can I change an engine with TBI to a carburetor?

Is it possible to change an engine with TBI to carburetor by just slapping a carburetor. Or do I have to change the intake manifold and some other stuff. I've got an 89 K5 blazer that I've been trying to build myself. Don't know much about fixing engines. Just trying to learn how to do things myself.

you have to change the intake and it is is a factory tbi you will have to change the angels of the bolt holes so the the carb intake matches the heads. why do you want a carb.

Putting a carb on a fuel injected motor thats intended for offroad use is a backwards step and a stupid move.

Learn to fix the TBI. Its the most stripped down basic FI you could possibly ask for.

And no should you do it its not just a manifold. You need a stand alone HEI distributor, manifold, carb, fuel pressure regulator

Edelbrock makes a intake that is a direct replacement for that with the holes already angled.

Funny thread....

I also was wondering about the user name.......

I would keep the TBI. Easy to work on, super reliable.

Nobody knows

the trouble ive seen,,,nobody knows the sorrow

I think the question should have been more like this;

"I want info to carb a TBI, I want a complete list of parts neccesary,
with part numbers and pictures and I want a list of tools required too,
and what size each bolt is and what size socket to use, and full
details of every thing that will be modified

!!! OR ELSE !!!!"

Fuck HEI gets some points and a Qjet so you can fixit on the side of the road with a screwdriver.

Heres a few questions??

will my carb hit my hood with a highrise intake
are my manifold bolts going to be long enough
will my throttle cable still fit
are the distributor shafts interchangeable length diameter
are there coolant plumbing issues
which intake manifold gaskets,
valve cover clearance issues
firewall, distributor clearance issues
Automatic transmission linkages, vacumn lines
Fuel delivery ( been covered, boo who)
Electronic crossreferences

"NUTHIN BUT A BUNCH OF BITCH ASS KEYBOARD COWBOYS,
WITH A VISA OR MASTERCARD TO BUILD IT WITH"

Its apparently more difficult than jackin off or pumpin gas so your probably SOL on advice from these tittybabies

im sure everone already said this butttt

on tbi heads the two center intake bolts are a different angle than all the rest.

weiand and edlebrock are the only two companies i know offhand who make the manifold you need. i bought a weiand when i did this i think i spent somewhere around 150-200ish.

youll need a new distributor, i think they are 75$ish for a reman at vatozone.

some tbi motors have a fuelpump cam others dont. mine did so i just threw a stock mechanical fuel pump on my block and ran it. you may need to change or modify your sending unit so it will work with a mechanical fuel pump.

why would someone want to put a quadrajet on a tbi motor... hmm carbs contrary to what most of you think aint that bad. they are pretty dumb proof and very consistent with how they preform, and pretty cheap and easy to tweak to make power.

Don't do it. I just fixed my idiotic tbi to carb swap that I was so hell bent on and it was a pita. On a street only truck it wouldnt be that bad but since its 4x4. Jack it up about 12" put alot of crome and 8 shocks per axle and you should be fine. Instead of welding just use bubble gum or snot for you 3' drop hangers.

STAY WITH TBI, if it aint broke why fuck with it? Get a book or better yet READ on the internet and LEARN about tbi and engines and drilldos. You will be fine no need for this

You probably won't get it running anywhere near it's potential without a good cam and a custom chip. However, for an idea check out this guys thread. He got it working eventually, but he dumped a lot of money into it. He figured he would have been time and money ahead to just carb it and have fun. http://www.gmfullsize.com/forum/show...ht=383+stroker

questions on my new project

I just bought a 91 chevy with a blown motor.I want to stay with my tbi.But I built a 350 a few years back its out of a 1980. I researched and found out you can just switch the intake from 85 on because of the center bolt holes at a different angle I can't do this on mine.Do any of you know of any aftermarket intakes that I could use to keep my tbi? I put a mild cam the engine I built. I've been told that the factory computer won't run that engine without a stock cam does anyone know if that is true? With all that being said it looks like I'll be running my holly street avenger. I've been told that if I run a regulator on my factory fuel pump I'll burn it up. Any truth to that ? Does any one know of a low pressure pump that I could just switch out with my factory fuel pump ? It seems like it's going to be easy swap those are just some of my concerns. Any advice would be appreciated.

Bumping a 4 year old thread to ask this?

I'm running Chevy TBI on an International engine. Why wont it work in your case? You dont have to swap intakes.
