99 Jimmy vss

Im looking at doing a SAS under my 99 Jimmy. My question is about the Vehicle speed sensor. First, is it on the transmission, xfer case, or out on the axle? Second, is it possable to just use a programmer(bully dog, hypertech, ect...) to account for the changes that i might make in gearing and tire size, or am I making more problems for myself?
