NP205 to TH400 adapter problem

I have a 86 2500 suburban with the 6.2 Detroit diesel. Originally had a NP208 behind a TH400. I'm swapping the 208 for a 205. Just picked up a 205 out of a 87 K30. Went to bolt it on and it wouldn't mate up. There is about 1" between the tailhousing and the 205 case. I need a tailhousing that would be able to mate the long shaft instead of the short shaft 205 input. Because this truck is a diesel it is a J code. I need to know where I can find a TH400 long shaft tailhousing to mate to the round 6 bolt pattern on the 205. Please let me know where I can find this it has been very difficult finding one

which 32spl input gear do you have? long or short?

exactly how long is the 208 adapter and the tail shaft from the th400?

208 and round 205 use the same transmission tailshaft with 2.375" stick-out. If you are trying to use the 2.5" 208 adapter, it will not work. You need the 4" 205/TH400 round adapter.

This I didn't know, was there a reason for the different length shafts for the th400 to 205 combo?

i "thought" it was so that they could use the same output shaft and addapter as the 208/241.

but jd8420 say that you need a 4" round adapter......

This makes me question whether there actually was a long shaft used in the 205 to mate to the 400.

6 bolt round 205's use a long input on the 205 and a 2.375" transmission shaft (same as 208/241). Figure 8 or racetrack 205's use a short input and a 4.5" transmission shaft. All TH400 to NP205 adapters are 4 inches thick.

I went through that same issue.I cut the tail shaft of my thm 400 and used the round to 8 bolt adapter.2 years an works like it should. Also O.R.D sells all those hard to find adapters,or I have a 6 hole to 6 hole 4"deep adapter that was made for the problem you have for sale 100$ I also have a round bolt to round bolt (208 to thm 400) stock adapter 150$.

You could also install the short 32 spline input into the 205
