Official scoring correction following competition review board assessment 2012 KOH
Just recieved an email from Ultra 4. A 30 minute penalty has been given to several drivers for cutting the course on Chocolate Thunder. Whats next will IRC data be looked at also?

Isn't that the point of having the IRC so that everyone has to do the same course. Without the tracker many racers could do short cuts to improve position and times. I don't have a problem with them reviewing all the data before announcing positions.

It was for skipping the gate keeper at chocolate thunder which put spectators, media, and drivers below them at risk. We were told at the drivers meeting not to take that line or we would be DQ'd so I tihink they got off good. Believe me I would have rather not sat in line for 30 minutes and by passed that stupid rock that I can't climb to save my life.

I think IRC data is kind of an instant thing/ as soon as they plug the box in and down load it they can see it.
This is specifically for the ~150' at the entrance to Chocolate Thunder, and the High left Line that was taken by apparently 7 competitors. I was out of the car when this was going on and it was bad from the course side, I wasn't on the spectator side of the bypass but I know that one of the Beebe brothers(AKA Griffin) almost got smacked by the first car to take that line. The second car got tangled up in the winch line that was trying to get the car that was broken out of the way. In general a lot of Rectal Cranial inversion shit was going down and the BLM could have stopped the race right then. Having been there, on the ground and literally hiding behind the broken car from debris and thrown sand I can say where I was at was not safe. You were already through CT when this went down so it might be news to you, or you have only seen it on the videos so real world accounts were taken into review, the video which is pretty alarming from the few videos I have found and this is the result. I hate that Dave has to do this but I understand why he has to as well. It is a bummer but maybe a good example that we as racers need to start ad-hearing to a code of conduct during these backups. Be a sportsman and keep your place in line, don't try to pass 20 cars sitting still waiting to prove your better BUT most of all GET YOUR DAMN CO DOG OUT OF THE CAR, SEND HIM TO THE FRONT AND TELL HIM TO GET THE MESS CLEANED UP SO YOU CAN GO. Dave shouldn't have to show up to spot when there's a backup. This is two years now, both years I got up there helped the guys in front of me, got my car through and peeled out. In the end it didn't take too much time, still more than we wanted but I can guarantee you it was less than if I had pulled out a sandwich and just watched as most did. BENDER I know you are one of the exceptions. If every car that was stopped at Chocolate Thunder would have done this the back up would have taken less than half the time it did. 3 trys winch, one guy flails on the obstacle for at least 15 minutes and not one other guy says hey stop just winch up. That car cost everyone behind him 15 minutes so he could be cool and not winch. Yes I watched every second of the u-stream video several times looking specifically at the time period that all bypasses were taken. I could have been issued a time penalty as well for the alternate line after the gate keeper, so i had an interest in seeing exactly who, when, where and why things went on. Fortunately the CRB saw things the same way I did and we weren't penalized. |

It also cuts off right before Casey Currie takes the same line and cuts across getting all tangled in strung winch rope being used in the recovery of the trail plug rig. I have watched our footage a million times of this...crazy

I think this is a good thing to have, although ct was freaking easy, I really wanted to be a douche and bypass everyone around the pirate van and go up while the rest flailed around.

What about the two lines at the beginning of the race? Why were no penalties given there?

I don't think there is any way to prove who did and didn't do that, there was people still doing it on the second lap.

You think they were too close for IRC to know the difference?

Now the time standpoint is another issue but I can't speak to that as we got the "follow the god damn course that's shown on your GPS" lecture loud and clear from Dave right before we started. So we did wasn't that hard so I don't know what the issue was with those guys that couldn't look at the GPS

Good job KOH CRB. This one got called right.
Only thing I was surprised of is that it was only 30min. That doesnt seem punitive to me. If the guilty waited in the line at CT it would have been 30min, I'd expect to see their wait time PLUS a punitive additional time adder. None the less, good this got handed down to show the BLM that driving violations wont be taken lightly.
