Online. There are literally no spectating areas. Only to get even close is in the pits and its limited speeds there

so whats the point if you cant watch the race? even baja and mint have "areas" that people watch from. so is it worth a trip to vegas to waych or see the race at all?

I think this Jeep Recovery guy knows a little about the race in question and spectator viewing areas in general. He has a little expierence with both! Just saying!

of that i have no doubt. im trying to get into ultra 4 a bit more now that im not depliying anytime soon. so id like to catch as many races as possible. with vegas only 2-3 hours from 29palms it seems like a good race to watch.

Glen Helen in a coulpe weeks would be a much better race for spectators. Vegas is always fun because it is Vegas but unless you are chasing for a team watching the race wouldn't be as cool as a short course race where there will always be action.

Best suggestion above! You may want to hang out in Vegas and the start area to get to know and see the rigs, but even as media, with course maps and signing your life away, you will only "see" one or possibly two sections a day. A point-to-point course is just not that friendly to even get to (for a reason!). It is hardly enough to get a grasp of the different suspension set-ups and strategy in U4 which you are probably looking for.

If you happen to stumble on a spot within the first few miles, get the hell back, and preferably up. The drivers and organizers will not want to see you! They are never in that good of control. I have been 100 yards off the "course" and had cars go around behind me as dust and options dictated.

Since you are at the Palms, you know how to stay out of the way of Tanks. And Tanks can be wayyyy more nimble above 40mph than a desert racer. Use your head. (We used to race offroad at Ft Leonard Wood, MO when the Army was evaluating MtrCycles as an option. I was greeted head on with one (early M1 ?) at full song...He moved, I had no chance. Lucky!)

EDIT: What ZukIzzy says below, but will be commited!....And have a great experience.

X3 on Glen Helen, even just sitting in the pits was fun to watch perhaps the most uneventful part of the course. The only way to catch any action of V2R is to chase the race. Last year we saw a few cool spots along the way, but definitely not worth driving all day just to watch.

^x2! Volunteering at events and chasing for teams is the best way to learn the ropes.

Chris, shoot me a PM. We could use another chase team member in November for the Baja 1000.

X3 on Glen Helen. I get asked all the time, "how do I get involved in offroad racing?" Most teams are made of volunteers. If you are trustworthy and willing to work they will take you on but you have to prove your worth.
