So what you are doing with these is cutting the suspension and frame from the middle of the trailer and attaching the deuce axle to that with a modified driveshaft? Are you having to lift the front to match? You mentioned two other methods you'd tried, what were they? Seems like this is the preferred method for you?

Can it be singled without being bobbed or will driveshaft length be an issue?

Someone has a setup like that on here, but not sure if it has the factory axle positions or not. If it was just a matter of bolting on singles and 49's, that'd be a sweet setup!

Correct. No front lift. Other methods are- use front deuce springs, use trailer springs with blocks.

We have not done one this way yet, but I think it is possible.

The way I understand it in California you have three choices to avoid commercial registration and all the fees and potential exhaust retro fit and CARB laws.

Historical vehicle, cheap and easy but if you should ever get caught hauling stuff or have an accident not in a parade you could be screwed.

RV, must have enough habitation stuff i.e. sleeping, heat or air, self contained cooking and toilet, and running water and be permanently attached. Some say dropping a drive axle makes it much easier, less commercial vehicle like.

Or bob it and declare lower weight with the DMV and tell them nothing and hope it comes out registered as a jeep, I have heard about this happening but its a crap shoot.

My only decision is do I want a deuce or a divorce? Or both!!

You are NOT confined to driving in only parades with a historical plate. You are legal everywhere.

I see Wisconsin just passed a new historic military vehicle plate law. $5 for lifetime, no weight limit plates, $25 for some fund to help fund the program. Once it reaches a certain amount, then all future plates are only $5 (if I read correctly). Vehicle must remain military looking, but I think this conversion would definitely be OK. Wife is not impressed with my new knowledge

Not really-- the guy I bought these from had them on Ebay and they didnt sell--so I am not going to spend too much time on the movie aspect of them.

But...I did just purchase another one from him-- its the main one in the movie that Harrison Ford drives-- it has big old style headlights on it- I MAY try to work the movie angle on that one a little more-- gonna see if I can get somekind of paperwork showing it was in the movies.
