2012 Baja Extravaganza
We got home about 10:00 last night from our nine day trip to Baja.
We started out in Tecate at 7:00 am on Saturday morning for the longest day of our journey. We left Tecate for Rumarosa where we met some friends before we hit the dirt for laguna Jaurez (Hansen), easy trip, then to Ohos Negros. My boys decided that they would take my YJ with 3 days to get it ready. We put a couple new leaf springs on it and some new Rusty's off road resi shocks on my JKU. We bought 2 new (kinda) 37" MT's for the trip because we dont carry a spare 250lb tire and wheel. One of the new ones didn't like Mexico and blew out 20 miles into the trip. We borrowed a tire and kept moving. Ohos provided what we needed in some great carne tacos and tortas and an 'almost new' 35" BFG AT. We bailed Ohos for Tres Hermanos and an old road into Urapan that I took in 06'. The road may have not been traveled since then, as it was way rough and very overgrown. No matter, it's Baja and it's an adventure..... |

We took the highway a couple miles into Santa Tomas then veered right for the back way into Erindira and Coyote Cals. What a great place to hang for a couple days! The waves were huge and the air was cool on the Pacific.
Brian and Robby broke a rear shock mount on the YJ and decided to just pull it and get to Cals, so I took the rear and followed them in. Turned out that it was a bad decision, as the only 'private' room left after everyone got a room was a closet upstairs with a 4' cieling and a futon mattress on a old pallet. The next day we took the Vinyard rd into Valle de Trinidad, then Diablo drylake to Morrelia rd into San Felipe..... |

Taken on day 2 just north of the town of Erendira on our way back from wine tasting in Santo Tomas.
The Pacific was pissed off. 20 foot swells crashing in to this tiny rocky cove made for an awesome sight. ![]()

Taken day one. Somewhere between Tres Hermanos and the town of Uropan.
What we expected to be a well traveled road was the exact oppisite. Lots of rach gates, over grown paths and washed out sections of road. Incredible scenery. ![]() Clouds rolling over the mountains from the coast we were headed to. After a nice warm day thru central Baja Norte it was bound to be a chilly evening on the Pacific.

Taken day two. A relaxed day on the Pacific coast. Taking in the view. Everyone casualy drinking, mingling, hanging out at Coyote Cal's or on the beach.
We would head north on dirt for an hour or so to visit the winery in Santo Tomas later in that day. ![]() Santo Tomas Winery

Taken day three. Crossing the mountain toward Valle La Trinidad making our way to the east coast of the pininsula and Sea of Cortez.
Day three was a good picture day. We traveled the pacific coast, the mountains, the deserts, lake beds and the Sea of Cortez all in the same day. It's one reason the Baja is so cool. Last stop on the Pacific before heading east in to the mountain. ![]() Coming around the mountain near San Isidoro.

Day three. We have arrived. Mirramar Bar, San Felipe.
![]() Night three. Fireworks display compliments of Ryan, in celebration of the near loss of his truck to the tide changes of the Sea of Cortez. A very sobering moment.

Taken day three. I've run accross Laguna Diablo several times in the past. I'm sure everyone notices the random sign in the middle of a dead lake bed that points left and say's "Beer y Soda"
I've always been currious of it. The sign leads you to a small wooden shack where a sign hangs out front reading "Jose's Cervesa Mas Fresca" ![]() Jose.
