CRAWL at Baja 1000

Here is a sneak preview of our Baja 1000 coverage. I'm down in Baja Sur staying in Loreto with one of Monster Energy's pit crews. Some names and faces will be familiar to a lot of you.

I'm hoping like hell that I see Fat City and/or Lance and Shaffer come through on Friday morning so I can put them in the article in picture form!

First up:

This is near Cataviņa. If you were going to organize rock crawling down here in Baja, this is where you'd want to do it.

We took the two chase/prerun rigs down on the beach just North of Loreto to enjoy some sand, surf and cervesa. You may recognize Jeff Knolls buggy from a prior issue of CRAWL and Bart Dixon's jeep which I believe was the first comp rig with rear steer.

Later on we entered the race course and ran the section that heads toward Loreto and then takes a jog towards San Javier. I don't have pics of it because I was concerned for my saftey and keeping my camera in one piece but it's a canyon full of water crossings and deep loose gravel. I'm super happy my camera bag has a rain fly on it. Instead here is a pic from inside Jeff's buggy just before we droped down into the wash.

Last up is a pic from today. Today we preran from Checkpoint 7 North of Loreto East towards La Purisma. We were concerned about the condition of the course in this section and thought it prudent to check it out in case Pfluger broke in it and needed the crew out there in the middle of the night or something... or maybe it was a good excuse to drive the piss out of the rigs. This shot is parked in front of a little shanty where there was a whole lot of goat crap and some pigs in a ghetto ass pen. I swear those pigs were gonna break loose and assault us while we fixed Jeff's transmission cooler.

I may post more before we go but internet is touch and go here so maybe not. If you want to see the really cool pics and the full story, check out next issue!

True but how could the most hardcore offroad magazine in the world miss the most hardcore offroad race in the world?
