Sometimes I like that stuff then sometimes I just think it's gingerbread and the guy has hours into making his junk heavy and trying to look cool when it doesn't even work.
Desert seems to have the most posers trying to look cool.

In some instances I think you are right. But I've seen a couple of these guys beat their stuff pretty hard through the whoops race after race and it holds up just fine. Yes, it's flashy, but I think that is the cool thing about desert racing. They seem to take real pride in the building process and to me that is inspiration to enjoy my own building. It might weigh a bit more than just round tubing but the guys I admire use pretty thin Chromoly that is punched and dimpled so I doubt it weighs all that much more. My own .02 is that I'd rather see a little heavier rig that is also a piece of art work than a light car that is simply laid out. But maybe that's just me.

A couple years ago desertrides did a build up feature on ( I think) an H&M chassis. Twas insane fabwork. Anyway, this is the only pic I still have saved and am still amazed--as well as glad the rockcrawling industry is moving in the direction of killer fabwork.

I mean, look at all of the rockin "so-cal lifted" trucks you see cruising around on the west coast anymore with the fake bedcages, engine cages, and intense backspacing. silly californians

Good point desert racing doesn't have that many posers I guess it's the guys that emulate them, the lifted truck guys and the want to be racers that do things just for looks. Some of this is mere jealousy on my part of course, I never seem to have the time, money or talent to do anything that isn't necessary.

The truck does have some camburg decals on it. What is strange to me is all of that is on the front and the rear looks to have relatively stock yellow replacement Bilsteins. It would seem to me that the rear suspension would not be nearly as capable as the front.

Let me explain the world of the fast to ya, you may want to sit down. Here's the thing, everyone knows the way to go fast is to put wider control arms or i-beams on your vehicle. The second step to the go fast equation is the "Off-Road Race" shocks.....I'll learn ya about those later . And the final step in this equation is the fiberglass fenders......not just any fiberglass fender, but WHITE fiberglass fenders. Here is where I explain why the rear "SEEMS" stock. There are no wider control arms or I-beams for the rear of a Ford Explorer. Second, it is very difficult to fit "Race shocks" in the rear of said Explorer. And Finally, there is a limited amount of fiberglass for the rear of Ford Explorers and none of it has the words "Trophy Truck" in it there for none of it is any good. See it's simple! On a side note: That is some sick fab work!! (Said with my flat bill hat on crooked and meaning it)

I think Beat95YJ knows a little something about shocks.

Wow, cool. Anyidea what type of bushing/ bearing that pivot point bolt has to allow it to handle the single shear?
