As a reminder for those thinking of racing in BITD. READ THE RULES! they're different that KOH!
and also remember the cost's and items required. Entry fee was $1100 last year Membership per rider/driver $50ea IRC Tracker Bracket & Wiring $375 - no rentals like KOH IRC Tracker Rental $275 (250 maybe) Transponder for scoring $80 and no matter how fast you think your rock crawler is, if someone in a TT/Class1 has an issue and get's behind in the pack, they WILL catch you, and when they do, they give you about 2 seconds to move usually. Some drivers are alot more patient than others.

Can you pre run in a stock vehicle or do you need to have a purpose built pre runner?

You can pre run in any vehicle. It does not have to be a race car. Speeds are very moderate. Its not a race, only a pre run

Just when you thought you'd never hear an outside noise in your helmet with all the other noises. for some reason that 6th, or maybe even 7th sence kicks in when something that big and and angry shows up in your mirror! BTW, guy's that did this last year, Casey said at both the Parker pre run meeting, and the season awards cerimony that the SS300 is 276 miles of new, never used course. So it may not be the road ralley it has been in the past...

FYI
Casey keeps a "upbeat" pace for the prerun. They do it in two days but there are a ton of vehicles to get from Point A to Point B. We used the race car last year. Stephen and Dad did the pre-run and claimed that there were times that it was closer to race pace than pre-run pace. ![]() How many cars are planning to enter SS300 this year. Count us in. Sacalas also did the pre-run in the racer and seemed happy with it. Campbell's pre-ran in Don's FJ and weren't super happy with the situation. I wouldn't recommend a street vehicle.
4wd was cool when the cushy trophy pre-runners were worried about sliding off the road in the snow. They seemed a little lost.

We always pre run in a basically stock jk. Its really no big deal. And i can even bet that pre run speeds this time will be at a crawling pace after what happened in parker with strobel's accident. Casey was pretty pissed

We are in, hopefully without a rollover. Last year was a blast, looking forward to a good size class unlike Parker this year.
I was thinking of using the wife's Tundra for pre-run!

there were brothers last year who rented a stock jeep and pre-ran in it. They raced in a side by side eventually, but was pretty funny to see them pre-running in a jeep.
You need a license plate on whatever vehicle you bring, by the way. Also bring as few people as possible. Caliente is a small town and anyone not actually on the pre-run is going to be bored. Unless you've already made friends with the old timers at the vfw in caliente. LOL. |

Having at least one extra person could be nice though, we were planning on packing our bags on the car and driving from the finish line to the start line but ended up with our meager bag of sleeping gear in the Sac's truck and one of his team guys brought my crewcab up to the finish. This was really good since we passed a NV trooper on the highway while we were towing home and we forgot the plate for the buggy. It would have been sketchy even with the plate!
