70 Power Wagon Monster Dilemna
So my pops has a 1970 Power Wagon with 44x21 Super Swampers, Bearfield 80 closed knuckle axles and a 14" lift. Its been sitting now for sometime with no motor and he's been torn between a blown 440 S-code engine hes got or a 5.9/8.3 Cummins...
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. |

Im not sure of the input youre looking for but Il go ahead and say what everyone else either will, or should.
Go ahead and put the cummins in it and post a couple pics... then enjoy.

I would stroker the 440 to a 512ci and be done. Forget the supercharger. Run a tunnelram with dual quad FAST Fuel Injection. Cummins would be cool but the Stroked 440 would win races!

i'd use whatever i had around.
big block if you already have it. stroker motor would be cool, or a 451 low deck motor. 400 block/440 crank... even a regular 440 would make good power if it's built right. |

the 440 with tunnel ram is what hes been thinking, he's a sucker when it comes to those damn things! Lol.
And dusty, ive literally spent two days after I get off duty with the AF reading your build thread. Amazing truck! He plans on using it to tow his tractors and toys kind of as a flag ship for his mudder as well. |

If he's going to use it to tow, I'd swap in a Cummins and get better tires. If he plans on playing with this truck more than towing, I'd put in the 440.

That looks like a clean truck. I can tell you personaly there is a lot of cutting to put a 6b into that truck. I have a 67 project truck with one, and if my truck looked that rust free i wouldnt of cut the cab that much.

With the size of the engine compartment and the winshield NOT protruding over it I'd still look into if for a tow vehicle.

Ive built 440's all my life. Build a cummins:500-600 hp 12 valve, and enjoy the truck forever. At least you'll be fixing u joints, and not changing ignition parts. The 440 will never have the torque or dependability. Its a lot easier to find farm diesel, than 93 octane in the woods......Remember, i love 440's...but there is NO contest here......

I usually hate big trucks, but this one is nice, would be a crime to cut fenders on this, I say stick to mud, or mild trails, hate to see this truck trashed. Or lower it, put some 35"s on it and show it. Yes I said this in a hard core forum, but go buy a beater and trash it, damn...........
