Anybody got any info on a Chrysler 91/4 rearend, good or bad? Need help

The c-clip is a bummer to have, but the late model 9 1/4" (like out of a 94+ Ram) has a much larger c-clip. I have a spare shaft and the slot for the clip is nearly 1/2" wide.

Also gear ratios are limited to 4.56 and very few lcoker options (althoguh the Detroit C-Locker is avail. I have one, its great)

Im guessing that the c-clips are the weak point on them. Anyway to make it stronger or fix it?

the C Clip itself isnt' really the weakeness. its when you snap an axle that you have a problem. The axle will come right out the tube since the C-clip is the only thing holding it in.

don't know of any C-Clip eliminators, never looked. my 9-1/4 is under my tow rig.

as far as lockers go... whatever brand limited slip they use coming from the factory works damn near as good as a detriot.

The factory Trac-Loc in my Ram was set so tight that is blew up (the retianer clips for the clutch packs all broke letting the thing fall apart) and ruin stuff.

haven't had that problem, and I've pulled the cover to change fluids looking for any signs of damage. (just maintenance)

I've heard the tires chirp on dry pavement before when there is a heavy load on them.

Thanks for the info fellas, know anyone who has broke the c-clips alot? Are the parts to fix it when it brakes hard to find?

What are you gonna run it in and how are you gonna use it? I run mine behind a fairly stock 318 and automatic. 4.56's, Detroit, 35" Swampers. Haul big loads, tow, wheel it hard (rocks, mud, lots of flex like stuffing one side and the other off the ground) and haven't busted anything yet. 120,000 miles on it.

You can cut the tube ends off, weld on some from a Ford 9" and use their bearings and retainers. However, Grim Reaper (mostly posts in Chevy and General) says that these bearings are more susceptible to side-load fracturing and he claims this mod doesn't do much for overall durability, at least on a GM 12-bolt, since it makes bearing failure quite a bit more common than axle or c-clip breakage.
