TF727 behind '01 5.9???
Looking for a little help here?!
In the process of putting an '01 Dodge Durango 5.9 in my Jeep TJ with a TF727 and an atlas... Transmission and T-case have already been in the jeep, but with an AMC patern 727... I've got the dodge tranny ready to go in with the engine but cant decide on what to do with the flexplate to torque converter issues... Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Durango 5.9 is externally balanced-using the harmonic balancer and weights on the flex plate... It also has the "90 degree" bolt pattern in which all 4 converter to flexplate mounting holes are evenly spaced... The 727 (non lockup) is out of a late '70s truck- not sure wether it was a 318 or 360... I have to have a later model flex plate to keep my CPS funtioning properly-so Do I have a custom converter for the 727 built with the evenly spaced bolt pattern, or try to figure out exactly where to put the balance weight on a 95 and older flexplate with the CPS tone ring? HELP!

you can do it, but either the bellhousing pattern or the adapter that bolts to the back of the engine are different. I can't remember which it is tho

The bellhousing patterns are the same for sure, and im not sure what adapter you are talking about... My main concern is the flexplate to converter matchup, taking balance into consideration... Thanks...

the ctd engines have an adapter that bolts on to the back of the block. it is different for the different tranny's that can be had behind them.
have you seen a 727 that came behind a ctd ?? and thebalance issues is why I think you will need a 727 that was originally behind a ctd Last edited by TheRamChargerMan; 05-02-2007 at 06:25 AM. |

He's talkin' 5.9l gas, unless you could get a diesel in an 01 Durango
There was a thread not too long ago about putting a 727 behind a magnum motor, might try to find it.Travis..

I wish I could remember for sure. Unfortunately, I haven't done the swap myself yet so I can't recall for sure. Try finding that thread. It is probably a couple of months old. |

As far as the special flexplate-ive searched and cant find any threads on it-maybe im lookin in all the wrong places... From what I understand, the 95 and older 360s used the non-symetrical pattern with the cps slots in it, but werent weighted... I guess if it was easy everyone would be doing it... thanks for the help...
