Rock Lights

OK, based on the fall being on us, and the desire to ride later (when I get to ride), I'm looking to put a set of Rock, or under truck Lights on my Dodge. I've purchased a set of Vision X HIL-STW Tantrum Strobe System And Rock Light Kit with Master Controller And Wireless Remote Superwhite LED lights to mount under the truck. Any guidance on what I have planned?

I am running some of the el chepo tractor lights from Napa on my Trailduster. One shining down in front of each front tire and then one mounted behind each front tire on the frame that shine down and back towards the rear tire.

Work great.

On my Samurai I have two of the small fog lights from Wal-Mart in front of each front tire and nothing in the back yet.

No specific guidance... I just ordered a set today as well.

It looks like they have a control module (that should probably be in the cab) and then a junction box for all the lights that connects to the control module. I have seen install pictures with the junction box under the hood...

I plan to try and get the wires into the cab as fast as possible. I'll probalby have both the junction box and controller in the cab.

I plan on buying some "wire loom" type stuff to try and gather up wires. It's pretty cheap stuff... basically a plastic tube with a split in the middle so you can stuff wires in.

I will also probalby be buying some more zip tie anchors too. They seem to work well for me in the past... It provides a convenient place to secure wires to. U used them on the top of the frame rails when I installed reverse lights about a year ago and they are still there.

Good luck with the install...

Eric,

Yes, the control panel and junction box's are NOT water tight. I think for our use the control box is not needed, and the best choice might be to either make your own junction box to plug the lights into or terminate in.

The lights were not a bad price, and much more durable than any of the tractor styles, and small and bright.

I might just start with magnetic mounts until I tune in the right locations though.

I had a handlfull of tractor lights/fog lights that I was going to use, but after I did some reading (and thinking) I realized that it could tax the electrical system pretty heavily if they were all on at the same time.

I did some shopping around and came across a really good deal on the Tantrum lights. It was too good of a price to pass up, so I opted for the low current draw LEDs.

I may end up bypassing the control box too, and hard wiring them. I'll try and get a little "tricky" with the wiring though... because I think I'm going to wire them to come on when the door opens or the parking lights are on. I'll also throw a few disable switches in there too... so that the lights are not on when I'm driving down on the road.

I like your idea of a magnet mount so that you can tune the light locations... I might have to borrow that from you. I might even leave one as a magnet mount all the time so that I can re-direct some light at the camp if need be. I'll have to play with them first to see what kind of light output they generate...
