Bypass neutral safety switch

I have a neutral safety switch thats going bad on my 96 Ram. I believe bypassing it is just a matter of connecting 2 out of the 3 wires on the switch coming out of the tranny? Anyone done this before that can tell me real quick what to do?

Im doin a manual trans swap and was think about just gound that bitch out right away. Im pretty sure the neutral switch is just the center wire, at least that the way it is on my 46re. Wait for some more input but Im pretty sure its just the center one, the 2 outside ones are your back up light if you didnt already know.

Money? They aren't but $10 each. He's probably too lazy to deal with the fact that it's going to dump massive amounts of fluid when he pulls it out, lol.

Got a forklift?

lift the rear of the truck as far as it will go without dumping the truck endo style, then you might not lose too much fluid

Wait lift it from the drivers side, it will seriously work.

i need to replace the one in my truck too. damn thing wont disengage properly when i put the clutch to the floor.

I think you are thinking of the clutch starter switch. He has an automatic with the neutral safety and reverse light switch.

well, this is the only vehicle I've ever had with an auto so I don't really even see why it needs that stupid switch...turning the starter in gear comes in handy every now and again. Plus I'm cheap and lazy.

Wait until you forget or someone borrows the truck and is unaware of your cobbled repair and runs the truck through the front of a store. I watched it happen at a local Advance Auto. Oddly enough the jerk was there buying a roll of wire to do the same mod to a different car. He now lives in a single-wide trailer because he also didn't have insurance and had to sell his house to cover the repairs and fines. Somehow a $10 switch just seems worth it to me.

Would spinning the engine at such low speed with the starter actually engage the t.c. enough to move the truck?

Probably not but without the safety switch it will fire and start which will toss it forward or backward depending on what gear it's in. Couple that with it being cold with fast idle and you can easily run through a store front or through the back wall of your garage.

I have a buddy that that happened to. He went to start his jeep in the morrning(hella cold out), he reached in started it and it took off, the back 38 bogger ran him over, hit the carport roof and stald out and pinning him under his the bogger for a few hours till someone came by and had to jack the suspenion up. Broken hip, knee, leg, ankle, I dont even know what else, he got fucked up!! So lesson learned never start your rig with out getting inside and making for damn sure that it is not in gear!! Thought Id share that peace of info

wow. so I guess my XJ was a death trap since you could engage the starter no matter where the shift lever was positioned (manual tranny) and it had no clutch safety switch.
