I feel like an idiot. How do you remove the air filter housing from a 2000 5.9 Dodge Ram? It feels like there is a bolt inside it that runs down into a bracket on the manifold. I can't believe that bracket has to come off. What gives?
Thanks |

5.9 gas or 5.9 diesel?
If it is the gas model, then it should be a single bolt on the driver/rear of the housing that will loosen the strap that clamps the housing to the TB. Remove teh air tub from the fender to the housing and then loosen the bolt, the ring and housing will come off. Careful with the cheap (don't mean inexpensive) cardboard gasket between the housing and the TB. If it is the diesel, I have no idea. Sorry

That is what I thought. Gas, BTW. I can get it off the throttle body, but it won't pull off. There is something holding it down, and it feels like it is inside the extension that runs from the bottom of the air box to the bracket below it. Hard to describe - I'll try to get a pic.

There is also a little nub in the front near the a/c compressor that the housing is snapped onto, then there is the breather tube from the driver side valve cover attached to the back of the housing.
You also need to open up that strap as far as it will go (without separating the ends of course) and wiggle it up.
