I have a 58 Willys sitting on a 78 3/4 ton frame. 440/727/203 60s f&r boggers. Replaced trans pump seal and torque converter seal, upon reinstall reverse only engaged at higher rpm and was sluggish. Dropped pan and discovered piston ring looking fragments. Removed pump and found that I had broken a ring on the shaft when installing. Local trans shops will only rebuild ($800) not willing to help with parts. Looking for any advice, suggestions, and ridicule on my situation.

Advice for re-install: Don't break the next one ![]() There are some tools out there to make sure the pump is aligned correctly, the clearances are correct, and more. Tip: Don't use a hammer to seat the pump - it breaks shit when you do that

Rebuild kits, pumps, etc are a vailable at NAPA an dother similar places. Rockauto.com usually has good prices for an online retailer.
Also when you put the converter in, it has to drop three times and will sit about an inch below the mounting face of the transmission when installed correctly.

Anybody have any experience with V10's catching on fire???
![]() Was climbing some hills out behind my parents' house after I dropped off a load of wood. Made my 3rd pass up the hill and the truck quit running, I saw smoke creeping from under the back of the hood. Turned everything off and got out, plastic dripping off the truck into a flaming puddle in the snow underneath. Kicked enough snow on that to put it out, then popped the hood and tossed a few handfuls on the coil-pack to put out that fire. Called the wife to have her come pick me up, too dark to do anything with the truck tonight. Couple minutes later (against my better judgement), decided to see if it would fire up (all while being very observant ). Fired right up. Didn't want to engage into drive at first, but finally got into gear. I was able to back it back down the hill, get up the hill and park it in the turn-around (too big to fit in the garage). I'll go out tomorrow and clean out the 14' bay of the pole barn and pull it in there to check it out... From what I could see by the tiny fucking light on my camera, looks like a plug wire may have shorted to ground and caught some plastic on fire, or maybe there was some oil or grease in that area... Hellifino... It's either that, or I have a pyromaniac gremlin that lives behind the coil packs...

The fire-retardant liner on the back of the firewall in my '05 CTD made its way loose and sat on my top turbo until it caught fire. That liner is way hard to put out. I dumped water down the backside of my engine bay for about 2 hours to keep the flames at bay so there was minimal damage. Something I check during my maintenance now.

Whatever it was wasn't too serious as easy as it was to put out, just want to know for sure wtf it was so I can keep it from happening again. Wasn't the most fun I've ever had...

I had the evap breather line in that area fall on the header in my Dakota and light up. Would have fawked ALL my wiring harnesses if I hadn't caught it, but I did. I extinguishered it since I had nothing else and had NO idea what the puddle of flame under my wiring harness was. I was on the street down near Tellico at the time so I'm double glad it didn't go extra crispy on me. 1000 miles is a long walk home

![]() I think it's likely electrical. Pretty sure I saw the grounding post on the firewall glowing red after I put the fire out, just not sure how or why or wtf... Battery ground cable losing connection maybe? Maybe's are all I have until tomorrow when I have some light to screw with it... Brand new, less than 300 miles on em set of plug wires are fucked... Just hoping the coil packs are OK, that's the only thing over there that would be really spendy to replace. It fired back up, and ran well, so hopes are high

From the looks of it, the pcv hose got too close to the header and melted through. Looks like there is a vac line that goes to the trans in that area as well, atf is what was dripping into the flaming puddle under the truck. All the hoses cauterized themselves so I was able to get it home without touching anything, now I can work on it at home.
A couple hoses, a new pcv, a little atf, new grounding strap and a couple plug wires should have it all taken care of. Coulda been MUCH uglier - feeling pretty lucky
