Need Help Asap (electrical short)
For starters, yes I searched, but with no luck.
Im working on a Ram 1500 with an auto and a 5.9 Magnum under the hood, and wont get paid for all the work I have done until I figure out how to solve an annoying little electrical problem that has plauged the truck for years and recently decided to act up again. There is a short somewhere that keeps the truck from running. It died during the test drive i took it for and has not wanted to start since. I started trying to find where the short is, but havent had much luck. I suck with electrical, so that might be why(total newb). Fuse #9 (10A) in the fuse block under the dash is the one that keeps blowing. I figured out that fuse #2 (40A) in the power distribution block is the circuit that keeps blowing #9. #2 runs the ignition and accesories. there is only one wire hooked to the back of fuse #9 and its a neon green/black stripe. shouldnt there be another wire here? or does the fuse block itself act as a common ground? If I pull #2 thats the only time #9 doesnt blow. so doesnt this mean it has to be between the ignition, fuseblock and power distribution center? could the short be in the steering column? I just dont know where to look... Anyone have any advice? a wiring diagram? anything? Please help, this project is a nightmare and I just wanna get paid.

Your search probably did not turn up anything because we don't deal with these problems here.

pavementsucks.com is a great place to find info on Dodges. You didnt say what year but i would guess mid to late 90's. These trucks had some problems with the steering colume (sp?) and i would bet a wire has rubbed trough and started to arc. Also these trucks have to have a near perfect battery to frame ground. If I had a problem that involved weird electrical I would always take the ground wire off of at both ends and clean the attachement points. These trucks are very picky about the ground for some reason. Good luck!
