went wheeling up moody hill yesterday. truck ran perfect. ran 180-200 deg coolant temps the whole time.

i ordered a 3200 rpm spring feul pin and and a 16 cm turbo housing

for wheeling you want to keep the boost up some, id go with a 12 or 14 cm wastegated housing.

Dang man this thing is fawkin sweet. I might have to read it at least once a week till i get my dak built. And 17cumminsboy is right. The 12 valver in my 96 has a 66/74/14 and dont hit 20psi till about 2k rpm's but after that its game over for who evers in the lane next to me. lol

and i only have dana 60s don't need 600 ft lbs torque to break my shit

HAHA with a 14 cm housing you would be fine. bc with just a fuel pin and a gov. spring it wont be that powerfull. and you dont weigh as much as a full sized truck anyway. just get the wastegated 14 cm housing and learn how to tune the motor and you will be just fine. listen to someone that has some experience tuning a cummins to have no smoke when throttling up and hitting 60 psi with twin turbos.

i do have alot of cummins exp. i dont have an intercooler so i have to watch the egts.
i already put a hx35 on it with a 12 cm housing and it got way to hot to fast.

im only a 1000 pounds less than a full sized. the dana 60 rear im sure is screaming.

but im sure you already know how a intercooled cummins with no intercooler in a 99 dakota is going to act.

WTF learn how to tune the afc so you dont just dump the fuel to it. and i bet it blows tons of black smoke too.

To run non-intercooled you may have to throw a cam in it to keep temperatures under control and build the boost fast enough to get smoke under control.

It's just not spooling fast enough right now. A smaller housing will help it spool on the low end but will hurt you on the top side - you should be able to limit your fueling up top to control EGTs at peak boost if needed but with a reasonable waste gate you should be able to keep drive pressures in check.

If the AFC is set too aggressive of course you'll pour smoke and build heat fast, but you can get hot and still go slow if it's not set aggressively enough too, because it doesn't fuel hard enough to get the turbo spooled to get air in there to clean up the smoke.

EDIT: on second thought I'm not sure I've made myself "hot and slow" with not enough AFC - probably just "slow"

i havent even touched the afc wheel. it barley smokes right now.

all i want to do is build boost faster. i dont want a ton more power cause i will just break shit.

ill get a vid up so you can see how little smoke it blows.

im done debating this. im going from a 21cm housing to a 16cm housing a little more feul no big deal.

well went wheeling this weekend.
had a little carnage.

i ripped off the front leaf spring mount on the dirver side. it just sheared off the rivets.

the axle went forward and bent up the bed pretty good.

i ratchet strapped it back together and drove 30 miles back home

damn those stock mounts
