The lake looks pretty full. Was it overflowing into the "funnel"?

It was overflowing. Now I know why they call it Funnel Lake.

It was a great trip!

Just got back from another Big Pine-Coyote flats run. Warm(in the sun) during the day but getting down to mid 30's and Low 40's at night. We got there late Thurs night after a double cardan (aka "CV") joint went out on one rig in Big Pine. This was opening weekend of deer season, but didn't see any hunters until Saturday, mostly guys on quads with binoculars. Thought we heard a couple shots, but they were far away. Stayed at the end of the road near the Baker Lk trailhead.

Couple changes up there. The little bridge across the creek at the south end of the main flats area is being replaced with something far more substantial. There was a loader and a backhoe, 3 or 4 tents, and lots of big, treated lumber there. The other thing is certain roads have been blocked off with wooden posts and a plastic sign ; the kind you can drive around, but we didn't. Near the high pass on the shoulder of Sugarloaf, there are two steep dirt roads up to the ridgetop that forms the other side of the pass, which were called "overlooks" on D.A. Wright's writeup. We made a special trip up there to hit the overlooks, but they are both blocked off now.

At the southern overlook climb :

New bridge construction in Sanger Meadow (the old one still in service):
