Another alternator question..... sorry
Ok, I'm on my third alternator in 2 years. One lasted for a year and a half. What happens is the voltage will start fluctuating from 12.4 to 14.4 on a digital gauge(confirmed voltage on other testers) and it does it faster than you can say the voltage. Then anywhere from a day or 3, it'll start going up to 15 volts and down to 13.8 or so. Then it'll start staying up at 15-16 volts. Radio noise is noticeable on cb radio. I have checked all connections from alt to batteries, starter and main circuit breakers. All clean and tight and no batteries have any heat to them and all test ok. At shop, guy tests alt and says a diode has burnt out and says it has a super loud whine to it as well. And then asks if I have any bad or corroded connections. At the current time all three alternators have been from the same place(i know I know, it's a small town) and under warranty. Next will be from a different place. I know parts are cheaper and cheaper and made from the cheapest bidder, but 3 bad in 2 years? I have added two light bars on the front and have them wired through a relay with a 3 pos switch in the cab Off, on and on with high beams. I wired the relay properly with ground to battery and proper sealed terminals and proper sized plus one, wires. It does make a little noise in the cb sometimes when they're on. Also. one of my fender running light/turn signal has a few leds burnt out. That's the only electrical thing I've done and the only electrical "issues" the truck has. Any relation?
Cliffs, 96 kenworth
voltage starts fluctuating
gets higher and higher
eventually starts holding higher and higher volts
It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. You take away all he's got, and all he's ever going to have.
