it will need some sort of adapter to monut it to a SM420. Check with AA. The 205's need an adapter to bolt to any trans. stock adapters are for SM465, TH350/700, TH400, for Chevy. Ford and Dodge have adapters as well. IF you want it I can bring it up next week.

no sm420 to np205 adapter available
AA did not make an adapter due to the fact that the sm465 came with the np205 and most people did not have any reason to separate those two.
My sm420 was new in the box less that 1 year ago when I put it in so I can't reason to get rid of it, just wanted to ditch the dana 20.

sorry I wish I could help. Does the SM420 have the same rear bolt pattern as the SM465? The SM465 has a 10 spline output is the SM420 the same? If it does you might be able to bolt it to a 205 with a SM465 adapter. Not sure.

i'll look into it, I'm also considering going with the sm465 with 203/205 doubler, great setup, just a lot more money. If you can and have the extra space bring one with you, I may want it still, Sacramento.
I have a spare sm420 case which I was going to rebuild as a spare, if we had the two side by side mock-up might be the best way to find out.

Looking for NP 205
I am looking for a NP 205 from behind a TH400. It would have a short 32 spline female input gear and 8 bolt oval pattern. My second choice would be from an '85 or newer 1 ton. It would have a 6 bolt round pattern but not the desired 32 spline gear.
