Good question! I looked through my advance adapter booklet and did not see anything but that doesn't mean much and nothing a quick phone call to advance adapters couldn't answer. (805) 238-7000 Give them a call and see what they say. I am sure the would since they are both GM. May need a new output shaft since the SM420 is a 10 spline and I think depending on the year np 205 is 23 spline.

The Dodge 205 is 23 spline, the ford is 31 spline and GM had 10 spline then in 85 switched to 32 spline. And by the way the ratio is 7.05:1 for the granny low not 7.5:1

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have never seen a 420 with a married transfer case in stock form, I know they (AA) offers a kit to bolt up a dana 300, but thats the only one I know of. please let me know if there is such a beast.
this is a very good trany for a short wheel base rig, I believe it is only 10.5" long, add a 3.5" AA adapter, a 6.5" bell housing, and a 12" dana 300 or atlas, and you're only 32.5". |

I honestly have know idea if it has ever came married to a t-case or not. I bought it a couple months ago to put under my YJ to upgrade form the ax15. I am selling because I have landed a TBI 350 with an automatic. I was planning on putting the SM 420 behind my old 4.0 with an atlas III. The adapter for the atlas was going to run around $300. If you are interested I am willing to go to $450!

FYI....
The SM420 transmission was used in GM trucks 1947 to 1968, and has a 10 spline output shaft, on some rare occasions 32 spline output can be found. Supposedly SM465s have three different output shafts. The 1968-79 4WD transmission used a 10 spline output shaft. The 1968-88 2WD version used a 35 spline output shaft. This transmission can also be used, but with output shaft modifications. The 1980-88 4WD tranny used a long 32 spline output shaft. Which AA does not offer any adapters that couple to this output shaft because of its length. If you have this SM465 version, you can change the output shaft to the 10 or 35 spline output. (Stolen from AA's webpage) |

Just a little extra to add.... not positive of the years, but i have a sm420 from an mid to late 60's chevy c60 or c70 which has a 10 spline input shaft, however it is much larger than the 10 spline shaft on a sm465 in diameter. so as far as the 10 spline input shafts for 420's are concerned they made two diameters: the more common smaller 465 style diameter and a larger ~1.5 inch 10 spline input shaft diameter. |
