No doubt about that! I've been exploring the area since 1976, and still find new things to see and do. My current focus has been on the 35th Parallel expeditions done in the 1800's by Lt. Sitgreaves (1851), Lt. Whipple (1854), and the Beale Road (1857). http://www.southwestexplorations.com/ has some great info on those routes.

XR650L sure does count in my book!!!

My name's Wil and I am the owner of Sierra Expedions, and I do most of my exploring in the South West region. I live in AZ.

Here's my rig:

My wife also helps run Sierra Expedions and we just recently sold her Xterra for a KJ.

Here's her old X:

Here's her new rig:

Hell yes it does! You can get some ground coverd on a bike in short order.
Great way to get a lot of exploring done with minimal junk you take with.

Hello, my name is Corey, and I am the admin over at YotaTech.
I have owned several Toyota rigs, and my latest one is an '07 FJ Cruiser I bought back in July of '06 to replace a very tired '91 4Runner that I had for years.

I am fixing up my FJ primarily as an expedition-exploration vehicle, and it is also my daily driver to get me back and forth to work.
I do 4wheel it, but I am getting back into camping again, as I use to be very heavily into that when my two sons were much younger.

So I am building up the FJ to be able to camp and explore with.
Here are a few pictures of it.

A complete build-up of my rig is on YotaTech, IH8MUD, and fjcruiserforums.com
Also the build-up is listed on my personal website.

My rig is part rock crawler, part prerunner, and now i'm trying for part expidition rig.

1995 S10
D44, F9", coilover/3 link front, leaf spring rear, 37" MT/Rs or Krawlers depending on the terrain, TBI 350, 700R4, Lowmax D300, bobbed 13", internal cab cage, Lowrance Baja 540c.

It may not be one of those big RV type Expedition rigs, but it's comfortable for a week in Baja, and I can sleep in a tent, or at a hotel

In March I just did my second trip to Baja, 5 rigs went from Ensenada to Mike's Ranch to San Felipe, and back. I want to continue to go deeper into Baja every time I go, as my rig and my buddies become more and more dependable, and I continue to figure out this whole long range trip thing.

Mine's on the left:

Cool to see this forum addition at Pirate.

Laid down some fresh paint and continuing to put it back together. I start working on a trailer next.

G'day all - Jon here from Perth, Western Australia.

I own a 99 Mitsubishi Challenger (Montero Sport in the US). Have got it kitted out for expedition work and have explored pretty much the entire of Western Australia from the Kimberly, to the interior and far south. My Challenger is a one of a kind in Australia (most modified) and has been featured in a few mags over here.

I absolutely love camping and exploring and if its just me and the boys I pack the swag, but if the missus is coming along then in goes the canvas tent. Though now she is sold on the idea of a double swag so its all good!

Gotta organise a custom tube front bar, rear swing out carrier and a rear locker. Cheers!

Hey mate - it was custom made by a local canvas shop here who specialise in making canvas stuff for caravans, trailers and 4wds. Still got a few small modifications to get done to it to make it perfect but overall I'm happy with it. I've found its a lot heavier duty than the ARB/Opensky awnings you can get (and that I originally owned before selling to a friend). You can't see in the pictures but there are heavy duty zips that run along the outer edges so I can attach extra canvas to make a HUGE awning or have a semi-enclosed room.

Haven't done it yet but it is on my list. I've pretty much driven the entire of Western Australia from the far north Kimberly, to the cool southern forrests and the inland outback areas

I was in country last year but in NSW, and Queensland. I have always wanted to do the CSR. When I come to WA maybe you could show me around a bit? That would be awesome! I bought a Land Cruiser while I was there and still store it in New Castle. I would just fly to Sydney, pick it up and driver the great ocean road to WA! Man I cant wait to get back to your country
