Post pics of your built roof racks.

I want to build my own roof rack and want to gather ideas on how to mount to the rain channels so any pics will be appreciated. Thanks.

Not home built, but a off the shelf Safety Devices rack. I've had over 1200 lbs on it!

It wasn't too bad. It's a seven passenger disco, so it was not that different from having a full pass load. It was 25 4x8 sheets of OSB and a few 2x6s.

something tells me that 7 people in an SUV is not the same as having 1200 pounds of wood on the roof...

nice rack though..

That Disco rack looks pretty sturdy with 8 mounts. Do the sliding brackets stay put with 1200 lb on it?

Here's my ghettobudget build made from leftover scraps and electrical conduit behind my shop....

(Professional pre-build rendering)

4" Low Profile ConFer mounts from Train4x4 ($70)

Wood and carriage bolts to line things up...

Some rust primer...

100watt SRS Lights with all wiring hidden within the conduit tubing ($7.99 a pop)

A buddy at the local steel supply hooked me up with some steel mesh on the cheap...

Train horn mount welded in and OBA system installed...

NorthenTool

They had an online sale and I just printed it out...

They were actually $9.99 in the store, but they gave me the price the print out and I just nabbed their entire shelf....

What's funny is that the replacement bulbs alone cost more than each lamp lol

And yes, that's a mailbox up there, but it's not for mail

LOL

I actually use the OBA system to run airtools and air up the tires more than anything else, but the horns are a definite plus

I've got about 300 lbs. of tools, recovery gear, jumper cables floorjacks, etc., etc. and that's before I load it with weekend family crap

We actually wanted to surprise the kids that day cause the little jet skis were in the garage for over a year, so I filled them up beforehand hoping to yank them off and toss them on the lawn, but they spotted them a soon as we pulled in
